  • Sugaring is an all-natural epilation method of hair removal. Epilation is when the hair shaft is extracted from the root! A body temperature sugar paste made of sugar, water, and lemon is used to glide on against the hair growth in preparation for removal. The hair and sugar paste are then swiftly flicked off the skin and the hair is extracted in its natural direction.

  • Sugaring originated in Egypt! It’s an ancient method and one that’s been practiced for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians considered hair on the body to be indecent and invented sugaring, as well as other methods of hair removal. Both males and females practiced the original form of sugaring using a honey mixture to extract unwanted hair.

Historically, sugaring has been predominantly practiced as DIY vs. in a salon setting. Although it’s common in other countries, it’s only been in the United States in the salon setting for about 15 - 20 years. It’s popularity is growing on the East Coast, but has been popular on the West Coast for many years.

  • We use "yoni" as a way to provide a more respectful, comfortable, and caring experience for your intimate care.

In Sanskrit, "yoni" refers to the female reproductive system, but its meaning extends beyond the physical to represent the divine feminine and the source of all life. Historically, the word has been used to symbolize creation and the nurturing aspect of the universe.

Today, yoni is being reclaimed by women as a term that empowers them to reframe their thinking and relationship with our bodies. The word moves away from the euphemisms often used to describe female anatomy— “down there, “intimate,” “privates” – terms that can carry shame or discomfort

Sugaring has historically been performed as a ritual of cleanliness and beauty, deeply tied to cultural and spiritual beliefs.

As women continue to embrace the practice of sugaring, they are not only continuing a tradition but also redefining it in a way that aligns with modern values of self-care and empowerment.

By embracing the term "yoni," women are taking control of their narrative and redefining what it means to connect with their bodies.

  • Lots of reasons! Although both methods are methods of epilation, sugaring and waxing are different in almost every other way.

    These differences include:

Temperature: Sugar pastes are used at body temperature; waxes are used while hot.

Ingredients: Sugar pastes are made from a mixture of sugar, water, and lemon. Waxes are made of beeswax, rosins, pine resins, water, and other additives for color, fragrance, etc.

Method of application: Sugaring requires the paste and gloves to apply ; waxing requires muslin strips, wax, and stick applicators.

Method which the hair is removed: Sugaring removes the hair in its’ natural direction; waxing removes the hair against its’ natural direction.

    • The affect the methods have on the skin and hair : Sugaring doesn’t remove live skin cells (cells that are alive and multiplying), while waxing can remove live skin cells. The removal of live skin cells can irritate sensitive skin types and sensitive skin areas ( like the pubic area ).

  • Both methods extract hair from the root of the follicle, which can thin the hair out over time and reduce the amount of hair that grows.

However, since the hair is extracted in its’ natural direction with sugaring vs. against the natural direction with waxing, the removal is much more thorough.

The likelihood of the hair breakage during extraction is less common with sugaring for this reason and can result in less ingrown hairs over time.

Since the sugar paste isn’t hot like wax, it doesn’t remove live skin cells! The same area can be sugared multiple times without it affecting the skin for this reason, which means that the sugarista can pick up more hair in a session.

Many find that they get more thorough and longer lasting results from sugaring.

  • It’s simple! A bikini doesn’t include the derriere. A brazilian does! You may leave a triangle or strip if you choose to get a brazilian service - just be sure to let your sugarista know.

  • Here’s the thing - professional sugaring requires A LOT of training and education to master.

Although we can’t speak for other sugaring salons, our sugaristas are highly trained professionals with many hours of training and education.

Our sugaristas are trained to make the sugaring process as comfortable as possible for you from start to finish.

We also encourage open communication between client and sugarista so that the door is always open to let us know how you’re feeling.

  • Absolutely! All of our sugaristas are highly trained and highly skilled - but we totally understand wanting to stick with your “person”.

You may request your sugarista for each and every appointment you make - just know that it may be subject to change if there is a scheduling conflict, staff emergency, or illness.

We will be sure to communicate with you if there is a staffing change at any time so you can make adjustments if preferred.

  • Please do not be worried about that!  We are professionals who work with all different types of women from all walks of life! We completely understand where you’re coming from and respect what it takes to book ( and receive ) a Brazilian or Bikini treatment. We will do everything it takes to ensure you feel comfortable and taken care of - we promise !

  • Instead of measuring your hair, we recommend that you wait at least 1 ½ - 2 weeks after shaving to get sugared. We also recommend that you wait at least 3 weeks after waxing/sugaring to get sugared! This amount of time is okay for most people.

  • the sensation of pain is subjective!

We all know hair removal can be uncomfortable, but we do absolutely everything we can to make your experience as comfortable as it can be by offering various soothing techniques to ease you through the process.

These techniques include ( but aren’t limited to ) :

breathing techniques, applying pressure after hair removal ,

( which many find to be helpful! )

and offering a stress ball during your service to serve as a distraction and give you something to hold on to if you’re feeling anxious.

All of the above have been our proven methodologies for over 3 years to ensure your sugaring experiences with us are as comfortable as they can be.

Ps. Open communication is not only welcome - but encouraged. If you need a break or need to take a sip of water etc. please don’t hesitate to let us know :)

  • Some people are more prone to getting ingrown hairs after hair removal than others!

While they’re more common in curly patterned hair types, getting ingrown hairs after shaving, waxing, tweezing, and sugaring is common for all different hair types.

Ingrown hairs happen when the hair grows into the skin instead of out of the skin as it grows back! This is more likely to happen when an excess of dead skin cells gets into the empty hair follicle post-sugaring, pushing the hairs into the skin.

We recommend gently exfoliating the areas you choose to get sugared beginning 3 days post-treatment to prevent this from happening!

  • We recommend waiting anywhere between 4-6 weeks to maintain sugaring results.

This time frame is dependent on your lifestyle, how often you like to get sugared, and your individual goals to reduce hair growth, ingrown hairs, etc.

Your sugarista will discuss this time frame with you and pre-booking is always an option to ensure your next appointment time.

Also note: We understand hair reduction isn’t the goal for everyone! You can certainly get sugared whenever you feel is necessary.

  • Yes! Although we do ask that you wear a tampon during your Brazilian or Bikini treatment.

  • Absolutely! You can get sugared as usual during pregnancy.

  • Yes! We have a 10 minute grace period for clients who are running behind. If you arrive 10 minutes or later than your scheduled appointment time, we cannot ensure your appointment slot and thus, may need to reschedule your appointment.
